Water Conservation/Pollution Prevention
In the Spring of 2013 15 5th grade Green Team members repainted the Rain Barrels to represent the different areas of gardens that they were placed in. One in the butter fly garden had flowers , insects and Butterflies on it. The orchard had fruits that we grow as well as vegetables on the raised bed garden.
On a rainy fall day in 2012 25 Students participated in our 2nd tree planting with Parks and People on the school grounds to reduce storm water runoff. Students planted the a large amount of these trees in a areas that would help catch the storm water runoff before it went into the storm drains. They learned that the roots of the trees help keep the soil in place and also help soak up some of the rain water which helps reduce storm water pollution in the Chesapeake Bay.
Students participated in water testing of tap water vs bottle water and the effects on plants . They learned about how water pollution can effect plants and people.
